Important Notices
Your Duty of Disclosure / Misrepresentation
For non-consumer insurance, you must disclose every matter you know, or could reasonably be expected to know, that is relevant to the insurer’s decision to accept the risk and on what terms. This duty continues until cover is agreed and applies again at renewal, variation, extension or reinstatement.
For consumer insurance, you must take reasonable care not to make a misrepresentation.
If you do not comply, the insurer may reduce its liability, cancel the policy, or, in cases of fraud, treat the policy as if it never existed.
Claims Made Policies
Some policies (e.g. professional indemnity) operate on a claims made and notified basis. They generally only cover claims first made and notified during the policy period. You must notify the insurer in writing as soon as reasonably practicable of any claim or circumstance that may give rise to a claim, including before policy expiry.
Occurrence-Based Policies
Policies such as public liability and property insurance generally respond to events occurring during the policy period, even if the claim is made later.
Claims Notification
Notify all claims, losses or circumstances as soon as possible. Do not admit liability, incur costs or settle claims without the insurer’s prior consent.
Changes in Risk
You must inform us of any material changes to your circumstances as required under your policy.
